The “Bodie” series represents parts of my dreams and childhood remembrance of fairy tales and ghost stories, revealing messages from the unknown as well as the past.
The photographs were taken during one of our summer trips to the High Sierras, Mono Lake, and the nearby areas including Bodie, the most preserved ghost town at 8300 feet elevation and just east of the Sierra Nevada. After our first walk on the dusty streets between the old houses, I started to feel the past, the busy life of the gold mining town in 1880. Slowly, the mysteries and secrets of the dust-covered old rooms and cracked windows, torn curtains, clothes, and dishes were revealed to me and I was happy to have discovered this old ghost town.
I always seek to explore the situations in our natural environment in which light causes some unique effects. This portfolio of work shows a magical and secret world revealed through time travel to the past and challenges the viewer with a different perspective on our humanized fragile natural surroundings.
