Laszlo and Lexi at the Birds and Blooms 2025 Retreat

Laszlo and Lexi were invited by Mary Anne Morris (President and Education Director) and Trey Morris (Co- Director and Facility Manager) of Wild Bird Adventures (Link), to participate as speakers on the Annual Birds and Blooms 2025 Retreat at Camp Allen (Link) (18800 FM 362, Navasota, TX 77868) on March 21- March 23, 2025.

Laszlo and Lexi presented their: “Exploring the Northwest(March 22, 2025 at 12 PM) and “The Art and Technique of Plant Photography” (March 23, 2025 at 9:30 AM) programs.

Outline of the “Exploring the Northwest”: After an Introduction about how to prepare and design a challenges filled trip, enjoy Laszlo and his wife Lexi, “Exploring the Northwest” slide show with music, about 450 color images, selected from their 64 days, 8.5 thousand miles photography trip to State Parks, National Parks, National Monuments, National Forests from Texas through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California then through the Southern States back home to Bastrop, TX in 2024. All images were taken with great respect for Nature, through their artist’s eye. This presentation is about their love of Nature and the beauty of the Land.

Outline of “The Art and Technique of Plant Photography”: In this inspirational course, participants will learn how can they visualize and photograph the Plants in the wild as wildflower patches, or as individuals by isolation. The instructor will review equipment used for Plant photography, will show low-angle tripod techniques, and will introduce useful accessories to control the light. The participants will learn to see creatively, how can they use proper field techniques, and how can they control the light to make the wildflowers glow and pop, how to soften the image using soft focus lenses and effect filters, and how to get close using DSLR, point-and-shoot cameras, or even smartphones.

Dr. Laszlo Perlaky is a photographic artist and educator, having 50 years of experience in various fields of nature photography using large format film and digital. He is a retired research scientist, past faculty member of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Cancer Center. He is a member of several national and international photographic organizations, past artistic director of Fill Your Cup Coffee Shop Gallery, past editor of Silver Image, past Print Competition Vice President of Houston Photographic Society. As a volunteer, he led his Photo walks at Brazos Bend State Park for 30 years. He is an active photographic instructor at Houston Photographic Study Group and Houston Center for Photography., elected board member of Lost Pines Art League and Bastrop County Audubon Society. He has successfully participated and been awarded in national and international photography contests, solo and group exhibitions. His images were published in magazines, books, calendars, and presented at major art festivals and auctions.
